PIANO & DOUBLE BASS LESSONS IN GLASGOW

TESTIMONIALS

“Amy is a lovely teacher. My daughter looks forward to her lesson every week and we enjoy seeing her progress over time. Amy gives a solid foundation for a beginner student and can teach the more advanced students as well.  My older daughter had video lessons with Amy from age 6 (after a couple of years of in person lessons) all through lockdown and Amy kept the lessons engaging and exciting for a young child. Thanks to Amy’s expert tuition, my daughter passed grade 2 piano with merit and was then successful at her audition for the City of Edinburgh Music School. We enjoyed the experience so much that my younger daughter started lessons with her at age 4 and we are so pleased with her progress so far. Amy has really instilled a lifelong love of music in both my children and it’s wonderful to watch their skill and knowledge grow”  Mor Kandlik Eltanani

Amy has been a wonderful teacher for both myself and my daughter. She is a reliable, calm and patient teacher. I would recommend Amy to anyone looking to learn piano with a supportive and kind teacher”  Katy Douglas

I can’t recommended Amy highly enough as a piano teacher to my 2 young daughters (6&9yrs). They were keen to learn the piano about a year ago and we were lucky enough to be referred to Amy. She is absolutely lovely and the girls have really enjoyed learning the piano with her. Amy teaches with kindness and patience and the girls love their lessons, they can now both read music and play with confidence. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Amy to anyone wanting to learn or improve their piano playing” Abi Martin

My daughter has been fortunate enough to have Amy as her piano teacher for over 6 years. Amy shares her passion for music in an enthusiastic, patient and encouraging way that motivates her students to learn. I like that Amy is flexible and allows for creativity, for example when my daughter was interested in composing and musical improvisation, Amy explored these with her. Amy was also fantastic during the pandemic when she easily adapted to online lessons. Amy was recommended to us by a friend and we now know several other families who are delighted to have her teaching their children. I cannot recommend her highly enough” Jackie Calder

ABOUT ME

I am a piano and double bass teacher based in Glasgow, with over 15 years experience of private tuition. I give my pupils a strong technical grounding and offer lessons in a calm environment, using positive language to encourage and motivate.

I have much experience in preparing for the ABRSM exams, with most of my pupils achieving merit or distinction, although there is no pressure at all to sit exams and lessons are tailored to the individual. I am able to nurture talents in composition and songwriting, as well as being able to teach theory and good practice techniques.

I studied double bass at the Royal Northern College of Music and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, achieving a BA (musical studies) degree. Since then I have released 9 albums of my own music, featuring my own string arrangements and performance on piano, double bass and guitar. I perform my songs live regularly in venues throughout the UK and have had my work played on BBC Radio 2 and 6 music as well as an album released on Linn Records.

Being classically trained has taught me the importance of discipline and practice techniques, and my songwriting career has provided a creative balance. I recognise that music is a very personal thing that holds great potential for self expression and enjoyment for everyone. It is very important to me to recognise individual strengths and to guide the pupil in the musical direction that feels natural to them.

I hold a PVG certificate and teach from age 6 to 106! Whatever stage you are at in your musical journey, please feel free to contact me for more information and to book a lesson.
